cellular respiration
breaking down glucose
starches and cellulases are complex carbohydrates ( chains of glucose ) and sugars
Light dependent
light is absorbed
creates produces that turn on the light independent reaction
takes energy to make sugar —> break sugar into usable bits of energy
photosynthesis equation
6 CO2 + 6 H2O —> C6 H2 O2 + 6 O2
carbon dioxide + water + light —> Glucose + oxygen
stomata
little mouth, where plants breath
Stroma
similar to the cytoplasm, the inter portion of liquid
Thylakoid membrane
the little apartments where stuff happens ( the walls )
photons
pockets of light from the sun ( when light hits chloroplast it raises their energy rate )
Chlorophyll A
the one that many mainly absorb light
absorbs mainly blue-violet and red light
participates directly in the light reactions
Chlorophyll B
used as support absorb extra energy and
absorbs mainly blue and orange
stores light
Carotenoids
takes the extra energy, spreading it out
causes leaves to change color
C3 plants
do photosynthesis all day long ( grape veins) stomata always open
C4 plants
does carbon and photosynthesis so has to partition when they do both, requires more energy but saves water tomatoes semi-open ( corn )
CAM plants
never open stomates because of extreme heat
don’t do photosynthesis during the day just absorb the light and do the gas exchanges at night
takes the most energy and the slowest growing ( desert plants )
make the photosythesis cycle
