Tuition
A fee that you get/charged when getting an education.
Student fees
Charges toward a student caused by activities and health/campus services.
Credit hours/Full-time vs Part-time
A full-time takes/enrolls for at least 12 credit hours for a semester. A part-time takes/enrolls for less than 12 credit hours.
First generation
To be the first person in your family to get a college degree from a four-year college.
Honors program
A program for high-achieving students that offers smaller classes and many more scholarships opportunities.
On-campus/Off-campus housing
On campus living = dorms/housing on campus grounds. Off-campus living = at home/apartment outside campus grounds.
Commuter
Somebody who lives off-campus and doesn’t live on campus grounds and instead travels to school.
Resident
A person who lives somewhere permanently on campus housing than is on campus grounds.
Room and board/Housing and meals
Room: Housing/what you have to pay to live on campus. (Living on campus) board: Meals/food/what you have to pay to eat.
Major/Minor
Major = The main area of focus that. gives 60 credit hours. Minor = An optional secondary academic subject/field of study that a student pursues in addition to their major.
Diploma
A certificate that is received from the school when the student finished their study course showing that they successfully completed a course of study.
Degree
It is a specific program of study given to you after you completed your program at a college or university.
Certificate
The proof that you did/completed some type of training or a skill usually in trades taking only months.
Associate’s Degree (A.A., A.S..)
A 2-3 year undergraduate degree typically requiring 60 semester credits offered by community, technical, and four-year colleges.
Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.B.S)
A four-year undergraduate degree (a peace of paper) showing that you have completed a certain course of study.
Master’s Degree (M.S.,M.A.)
A post graduate/extra training academic qualification obtained after a bachelor’s degree, signifying specialized, high-level knowledge in a specific field.
Decorate Degree (Ph.D.)
The most advanced academic degree you can get, awarded in many fields typically taking 4-7 years to complete. (Creating new knowledge)
Professional degree (M.D., D.D.S., J.D.)
After you earn a bachelor’s degree, you go on for more schooling and then earn the degree, taking between 2-6, years, depending on the profession.
