What are values?
Core beliefs that guide how we make decisions about and evaluations of behaviours and events -> values have a strong influence on behaviour
How do values develop?
Values develop in response to cultural experiences
Emotions are...
Psychological, behavioral, and physiological episodes that create a state of readiness
All emotions are experiences (NOT evaluations), brief events, mostly unconscious, and motivating (creating a state of readiness)
circumplex model of emotion
puts "activation" (high/low arousal) on one axis and "evaluation" (positive/negative) on the other
Self-perception (self regard, self actualization, and emotional self awareness)
Self-regard = respecting oneself while understanding and accepting one's strengths and weaknesses
Self-actualization = willingness to persistently aim for self improvement and pursuit things that boost quality of life
Emotional self-awareness = recognizing and understanding one's own emotions (differentiating between subtleties in one's own emotions while understanding the cause of these and their impact on others)
