Os Coxae
Another name for the hip bone, also known as the innominate bone.
Pubis
The front portion of the os coxae.
Iliac Crest
The upper border of the ilium which can be felt when placing hands on hips.
Anterior Superior Iliac Spine (ASIS)
A prominent front projection of the ilium.
Anterior Inferior Iliac Spine (AIIS)
A slight spine located below the ASIS on the ilium.
Posterior Superior Iliac Spine (PSIS)
A projection on the back of the ilium above the sacrum.
Posterior Inferior Iliac Spine (PIIS)
A projection on the back of the ilium below the PSIS.
Iliac Fossa
A depression on the internal side of the ilium.
Greater Sciatic Notch
A large notch on the ilium where the sciatic nerve passes through.
Ischial Spine
A pointed projection on the ischium.
Ischial Tuberosity
A bumpy region on the ischium that serves as an attachment site for muscles.
