Generalization
The ability to respond similarly to different stimuli after conditioning.
Discrimination
The ability to distinguish between different stimuli and respond only to the target stimuli.
Negative Punishment
The removal of a desirable stimulus to decrease a behavior.
Extinction
The process by which a learned behavior is completely eliminated through the absence of reinforcement.
Law of Effect
The principle that responses followed by satisfying consequences become more likely, while those followed by unpleasant consequences become less likely.
Positive Reinforcement
Adding a rewarding stimulus to increase the likelihood of a behavior occurring again.
Positive Punishment
Adding an aversive stimulus to decrease the likelihood of a behavior occurring again.
Latent Learning
Learning that occurs without apparent reinforcement and is not immediately reflected in behavior.
Insight
A sudden realization of the solution to a problem or how to successfully perform a task.
Inhibitory Effect
Deciding not to engage in a behavior due to observing someone else facing consequences.
Observational Learning
Learning by observing others, particularly when the behavior is demonstrated by a model.
Classical Conditioning
A type of learning where a neutral stimulus becomes associated with a meaningful stimulus, resulting in a learned response.
