Ecosystem

A place where living and non-living things depend on each other.

Food web

Many food chains connected together to show who eats what in an ecosystem.

Food chain

A series of living things where each living thing eats the one before it in the series.

Producer

A living thing, like a plant, that makes its own food.

Consumer

A living thing, like an animal, that eats other living things for energy.

Herbivore

An animal that only eats plants.

Carnivore

An animal that only eats meat.

Omnivore

An animal that eats plants and meat.

Decomposer

A small living thing, like a bacteria or fungus, that breaks down dead plants and animals.

Microorganism

A very small living thing that you cannot see without a microscope.

Living organisms

Things that grow, breathe, and reproduce, like plants and animals.

Non-living organisms

Things that are not alive, like water, air, and sunlight.

Biodiversity

A wide variety of different kinds of plants and animals in an area.
