Battle of the Alamo

Texans lost this battle to the Mexicans but demonstrated determination to seek independence. “Remember the Alamo”

To add on land, such as Texas in 1845.

Conestoga Wagon

Used by pioneers to move west on the Oregon Trail, made for easier travel.

Challenges for people traveling west

Was expensive to buy supplies, Native Americans could attack, wild animals, illness, landscape and harsh weather such as tornadoes/snowstorms.

Treaty of Guadalope Hidalgo

Treaty that ended the war between the United States and Mexico. Mexico ceded (gave) this territory to the US: California, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, most of Arizona and Colorado.

Erie Canal

This connected the Hudson River to western territory in New York. This helped NYC become a trading capital in the United States.
