What is the limit for instrumentation calibration?
100 kW, since you can't calibrate with anything higher due to not having a source for it
What is Bistable
on or off
What is Comparator
non-binary adjusted to a set point
Flow and Level Switches
use float to note change, binary system
Level Transmitter
float to sense change with multiple switches, non-binary
How often do you calibrate the NI Channels?
Annually and after maintenance
What are the three modes for fission chamber?
Pulse counting in parallel with B-10
Pulse counting when B-10 deenergized
Compbelling is log with signal proportional to noise
What does Power Channel 1 contain?
B-10 and Fission Chamber, logarithmic
When does Power Channel 1 produce a full trip?
2 blades off the ground and
period at 3 seconds, sensed by bistable, PERIOD scram announcer OR
10% drop in the HVPS, sensed by bistable, with HIGH VOLTAGE scram annunciator OR
scram annunciator lamps are ON when a trip is initiated
Note about full trip and log-N
1 kW signal is used as lower threshold for a blade drop trip for secondary well and city, using the SEC PRESS scram annunciator (used to check instrumentation works, since 1 kW is the point where secondary cooling is needed.
What produces blade withdrawal interlock?
-Safety Channel 1 calibrate switch not in OPERATE, with INT'LK annunciator
-Safety Channel 1 Trip test switch not in OFF, has no annunciator
-Period Calibrate Switch not in OPERATE, with INT'LK annunciator
-Period at 10 seconds, sensed by bistable, with FAST PERIOD annunciator
-Log-N signal at 2 cps, sensed by bistable, with SOURCE annunciator
Where is Log-N signal recorded?
2-pen recorder (green pen {currently broken})
---extended range (B-10 & FC) 10 µW to 50 mW
---FC 10 µW to 150 kW
and Period meter: -30 seconds to ∞ to +3 seconds
What is the Tech Specs requirement for power channels?
2 must be operable at all time, therefore all 4 detectors
What are the functions of the wide range drawer?
-Provides detector bias (HV) and operating voltages to B-10, FC, and CIC
-processes preamp signal
-turns off high volts to B-10 at 400 cps (must be off by 600 cps)
-transmits Log-N and Period signals to trip units (RPS), indicators, and meters
-differentiates log level signal for power indication
-differentiates power level signal for period indication
-supplies compensation for gamma
Safety Channel 1 details
Linear
FC operation in ion chamber mode, signal from 1 electrode in chamber with 2
produces a full trip if 2 blades off bottom at 110% power, by bistable, with SAFETY 1 scram annunciator (basically like a check engine light)
-gamma compensation not needed since its proportional to neutron flux in power range
Safety Channel 1 circuit diagram
KNOW IT
What does Reactor Power Channel 2 have?
CIC, UIC
Linear neutron channel and Auto Flux Control
10 micro to 100 kilo watts (like fission chamber)
Where is the CIC signal transmitted to?
Pico-ammeter (multirange red pen)
automatic blade control system
What are requirements to run the autoflux?
must be above 1 watt
period must be ∞
power within 20% of desired setting
control blade less than 750 units (should be less than 650)
What does CIC have that UIC doesn't?
active gamma compensation via negative gamma signal summing (take signal from gamma, make negative, add to signal from neutron+gamma)
Safety Channel 2 details
-UIC
-full trip, if 2 off bottom, by bistable, if at 110% power or 10% drop in HVPS for SC-2
-scram annunciator for both trips is SAFETY 2
-interlock on blades if SC-2 switch not in OPERATE
-linear from 0 to 150
Startup source details
SbBe licensed for 25 Ci, have 10 Ci
PuBe license for 39 g Pu, have 1 Ci
Why is the PuBe removable?
To protect the casing
What is the process for insertion of the PuBe?
Sign on Console indicating location (CVP or EVP)
Alarm on Log-N meter at 100 watts, sensed by bistable
Daily operating log entry
What are the 2 methods of voiding core?
Dump Valve (actuates on loss of AC power or scram)
Rupture disk
Primary Coolant temperature sensing details
Type T Copper-Constantan thermocouples
in Fahrenheit
need 4/6 operable
Inlet and outlet trips sensed by bistable and HI PC TEMP scram annunciator
