a favorable situation or set of conditions. If you start a marathon by falling flat on your face, that's not an auspicious start.
conducive adj
tending to cause or produce something. Regular exercise is conducive to happiness and a feeling of well-being.
auspicious vs conducive:
conducive means actively helping to achieve a specific result
Auspicious relates to fortune and omens promising sucess
charlatan noun
a person who is trying to deceive you with false claims, pretending to know things and lure customers in
coddle verb
association with pampering and taking care of someone/babying them

a more formal way to say "mix together," used to mean "confuse or mix up."

To stifle is to cut off, hold back, or smother. You may stifle your cough if you don't want to interrupt a lecture, or stifle your competition
salient (adj) (saline..salty..very prominent)
If something stands out in a very obvious way, it can be called salient. It's time to find new friends if the differences between you and your current friends are becoming more and more salient.
tenuous (ten..der)
lacking significance, thin, either literally or metaphorically.
If you try to learn a complicated mathematical concept by cramming for 45 minutes, you will have a tenuous grasp of that concept, at best.
