Oxytocin (Pitocin)
A hormone used to increase the intensity and frequency of contractions during labor.
Betamethasone
A steroid given IM to encourage lung development in the fetus and protect brain and intestinal structures, administered in two 12 mg doses 12-24 hours apart.
Magnesium Sulfate
A high-risk medication used for neurological protection of mother and infant, treating gestational hypertension, preeclampsia, eclampsia, and HELLP syndrome.
Calcium Gluconate
An antagonist to Magnesium Sulfate, given IVPB to correct Magnesium toxicity.
Terbutaline
A smooth muscle relaxant given subcutaneously to slow or stop contractions, but not often used due to cardiac risks.
Lorazepam/Diazepam
Benzodiazepines used to treat active eclamptic seizures.
Phenylephrine
A medication used to treat maternal hypotension, usually caused by anesthesia.
Ephedrine
A medication used to treat maternal hypotension, typically caused by anesthesia.
Cytotec (Misoprostol)
A drug used for the induction of labor, administered vaginally or orally for cervical ripening.
Cervidil (Dinoprostone)
A medication used for induction of labor, placed vaginally for 12 hours for cervical ripening.
Ampicillin
An IV antibiotic treatment given every 4 hours for patients who are GBS positive.
