Fingerprint Patterns
The 3 main categories: Arch, Loop, and Whorl.
Loop
A pattern where ridges enter and exit on the same side of the finger.
Whorl
A pattern containing a core and at least 2 deltas.
Arch
A pattern that rises in the center and has 0 deltas.
Delta
A triangular ridge formation where paths flow in 3 different directions.
Core
The central focal point of a fingerprint pattern.
Type Lines
The 2 innermost ridges that define and surround the pattern area.
Ulnar Loop
A loop that flows toward the pinky side (ulna bone).
Radial Loop
A loop that flows toward the thumb side (radius bone).
Ridge Count
The number of ridges crossing an imaginary line between the core and the delta.
