sociocultural
relating to the interaction of social and cultural elements such as family, peers, community, gender, socio economic status, cultural beliefs and traditions
fundamental motor skills
a set of skills that are the core or more complex sport specific skills
sport specific skills

open skill
skills that are externally paced, have lower variablity and higher predictability
closed skill
skills that are internally paced, have lower variability and higher predictiability
gross skill
use of larger muscle groups, involving powerful, whole body movements

discrete skill
a skill with a clear beginning and end
serial skill
a combination of discrete skills linked together to form a specific sequence
continuous skill
a skill that has no distinct start or end
cognitive stage
learning through physical demonstrations, reading info or listening to a description of the skill
associative
performer practices the task and can associate their movements with the mental image of the skill
autonomous
reaction time is shorter as motor pragrammes are well learnt
