Surah Al-Kahf 72-82

إِنَّكَ لَن تَسْتَطِيعَ مَعِىَ صَبْرًۭا

you cannot have patience with me?

لَا تُؤَاخِذْنِى

don’t blame me

نَسِيتُ

forgot (for forgetting)

وَلَا تُرْهِقْنِى مِنْ أَمْرِى عُسْرًۭا

and don’t be hard on me

لَقِيَا غُلَـٰمًۭا فَقَتَلَهُۥ

they met a boy, and the man killed him

أَقَتَلْتَ نَفْسًۭا زَكِيَّةًۢ

have you killed a innocent soul?

شَيْـًۭٔا نُّكْرًۭا

horrible thing

إِن سَأَلْتُكَ عَن شَىْءٍۭ بَعْدَهَا

If I ask you about anything after this

فَلَا تُصَـٰحِبْنِى ۖ

then do not keep me as a companion

ٱسْتَطْعَمَآ أَهْلَهَا فَأَبَوْا۟ أَن يُضَيِّفُوهُمَا

They asked for food, but the villager refused to show hospitality

جِدَارًۭا يُرِيدُ أَن يَنقَضَّ فَأَقَامَهُۥ ۖ

a wall ready to collapse, so the man fixed it

هَـٰذَا فِرَاقُ بَيْنِى وَبَيْنِكَ ۚ

“This is the parting of us

سَأُنَبِّئُكَ بِتَأْوِيلِ مَا لَمْ تَسْتَطِع عَّلَيْهِ صَبْرًا

 I will explain to you what you were impatient on

the ship belonged to poor people, So I damaged it, to protect them from a ˹tyrant˺ near them who seizes ˹good˺ ships by force.

the boy’s parents were ˹true˺ believers and we feared that he would lead them into defiance and disbelief (ruin the family)

So we hoped that Allah would give them another, more virtuous and caring child (to replace)

82

the wall belonged to 2 orphan boys and under the wall was a treasure, their father was a righteous man. So your Lord willed that these children should grow up and take their treasure, as a mercy from Allah. I didn’t do it ˹all˺ on my own. This is the explanation of what you were impatient with.”
