Pastoral Nomadism
Form of subsistence agriculture based on the herding of domesticated animals. Occurs in developing countries. DRY CLIMATES! (Middle East, North Africa) (Camel, goats, sheep, cattle)
Shifting Cultivation
Form of subsistence agriculture in which people shift activity from one field to another. Switches every few years, then left alone for a relatively long period. Found in developing countries. SLASH AND BURN! TROPICAL CLIMATES! HUMID, LOW LATITUDE! (Amazon, Central Africa) (Upland Rice- SE Asia, Maize- S America, Millet and Sorghum- Africa)

Seasonal migration. (Mountain to lowland pasture)
Intensive Subsistence- Wet Rice
Form of subsistence agriculture where farmers work intensely to subsist on a parcel of land. EFFORT. Feeds 3/4 of the worlds people in developing countries. Requires handwork, or animal power. No machinery. Found in developing countries. Climate is humid, but there are seasons. (China, India) (Crop Rotation- 1st Wet Rice, 2nd Barley, Wheat, and Tobacco)
Plantation Farming
Form of commercial farming specializing in one or two crops. The crops are grown for sales! Largest production. Found in developing countries. (Latin America) (Cotton, sugarcane, tobacco, banana, tea)
Mixed Crop and Livestock
Integration of crops and livestock. The crops mainly feed the animals, not the humans. The animal meat is for sale, or the products from the animal-- 3/4 income comes from meat, eggs, etc. Crop rotation. POPULAR IN EUROPE. Developed countries. (Europe, North America) (Hay// pigs, chicken, cows// eggs)
Dairy Farming
Deals with cows. MOST IMPORTANT TYPE. Ring surrounding the area is the milkshed. All parts of the world. (Milk)
Commercial Gardening/ Fruit Farming
Truck Farming- sells fruit and vegetables. Developed Countries (Think… Farmer's Market and fruit kiosks) (Southeastern United States) (Apples, Asparagus, Cherries, Lettuce, Mushrooms, Potatoes)
Livestock Ranching
Commercial grazing. Semiarid or dry land. Developed countries where vegetation is sparse and soil is too poor to support crops. (Think… Cows.)

ALWAYS borders a sea. Most are on the west coast of continents. Human consumption. Horticulture. NO DAIRY. (olives, grapes, cereal)
