SRY
Sex determining Region of Y chromosome. Between 6-7 weeks after conception, this gene codes for testis-determining factor.
SOX9
Regulates activity of various genes important for skeletal development and sex determination, testes formation. Activates genes required for testicular Sertoli cells. T
Sertoli cells
These cells of the testes are essential for testis formation and spermatogensis.
How does an embryo develop into a phenotypic male or female.
During an early stage of prenatal development, both male and female embryos have a set of Müllerian ducts and a set of Wolffian ducts, as well as undifferentiated gonads
Testes
Produce sperm and testosterone.
Leydig cells
Make testosterone (located between seminiferous tubules).
Epididymis
Stores and matures sperm.
Vas deferens
Transports sperm from epidiymis toward the prostate
Seminal vesicles
Produce nutrient-rich fluid (semen) (fructose) for sperm
Prostate gland
Adds fluid that helps sperm mobility and survival.
Urethra
Final tube that carries semen to the outside of the body.
Scrotum
Regulates temperature for healthy sperm production.
