What are the 4 skills and 3 systems?

Which are the Receptive Skills and the Productive Skills?

Being that they are both RECEPTIVE skills, Reading and Listening have similar frameworks. What is the only difference?
.
Answer: Change any reading-related words to ‘listening’.

What about the sub-skills? Are they the same for reading and listening?
.
Answer: Change all the sub-skills to be ‘listening’.

Although you can change the speed at which you listen, you can still listen with different goals.
Listen for the gist of the audio.
Listen out for specific information.
Listen more intently for nuanced details.
The main aim of a listening lesson is to develop Ss listening comprehension skills.

The best way to include the audio file in the lesson is to embed it in the powerpoint slide.
This way Ss can listen to the audio and read the questions on the slide at the same time.
REMEMBER to share the audio on the powerpoint slide so that Ss will be able to hear it.
.
On zoom, when you choose ‘share screen’, you can click the ‘share audio’ button.

What are some back up options you can prepare in case there’s a problem with the embedded audio on the powerpoint slide?
Use the audio from the original source material
Take out your earbuds so the audio plays from your computer and the Ss can hear it play
Finally, if you can’t get those to work, use your mic and hold it up to the computer while playing the audio.W
What is the last resort if nothing else works?
Note: This option is not ideal.
.
Have the audio script in front of you (on your PC or a print out) and read it aloud to the Ss.
Why is it not ideal for you to read the script aloud to the Ss instead of listening to an audio file?
Ss are used to your speech patterns.
They need to hear the way other native speakers sound.
If you’re reading, you might slow down or over enunciate so Ss understand. This doesn’t give them practice listening to natural speech.
If Ss need to listen several times, the audio sounds the same each time.
Should you give Ss a transcript of the audio?
No. It becomes a reading lesson instead of a listening lesson.
.
Always keep the main aim of the lesson in mind: to improve students’ LISTENING comprehension skills.
