Center-Radius Form
A method to rewrite the equation of a circle to easily identify its center and radius.
Step 1
Move constant terms to the right side and variables to the left.
Step 2
Group x-terms and y-terms together, leaving space to complete the square.
Step 3
Complete the square for both x and y terms, adding the same values to both sides of the equation.
Step 4
Rewrite the equation in factored form to obtain the center-radius form.
Example Result
In the equation (x-2)² + (y + 1)² = 9, the center is (2, -1) and the radius is 3.
