what is the formula of photosynthesis?
6 CO2 + 6 H2 O→ C6H12O6 + 6O2
How plants use carbohydrates?
Some is used to provide glucose , some are changed into sucrose, cellulose, produce nectar, make amino acids, make chlorophyll
How is the energy, glucose used by the plant to provide, is released?
By respiration
How is the sucrose carried from one part to another?
By phloem
Where is the epidermis found?
On the top of the leaf
Why is the epidermis tightly packed together?
To reduce the water vapor escaping from the leaf
Does epidermis contain chloroplasts?
No
Do epidermis photo synthesis?
No
What is cuctile?
Epidermis cells secrete a waxy substance which forms a thin transparent, waterproof called the cuctile.
Which layer is the palisade mesophyll?
The second layer
What are palisade mesophyll made up of?
Tall, narrow cells containing so much chloroplasts.
What is the main function of palisade mesophyll?
Photosynthesis
What is the third element that causes so much photosynthesis in palisade mesophyll?
Get plenty of sunlight
Which layer is the spongy mesophyll?
Third layer
Do spongy mesophyll contain chloroplast?
Contain but not much as palisade mesophyll
Are spongy mesophyll cells packed together?
Not so tightly packed, there air spaces in between the cells
What kind of a diffusion takes place at spongy mesophyll?
Air spaces allow CO2 and O2 to diffuse between the air •and the cells inside the leaf
How vapor moves in the spongy mesophyll?
Air spaces allow vapor to move from the surface of the cells to the outside of the leaf
Which layer is the lower epidermis?
Fourth layer
What are stomata?
Stomata are the opening in the surface of a leaf, surrounded by pairs of guard cells
What is the function of a guard cell?
Guard cells control whether the stomata are openor closed
What is the cell that is the only one containing chloroplast in lower epidermis?
Guard cells
What happens when light intensity is not a limiting factor?
At the fastest rate even if light becomes brighter, the plant can't photosynthesize any faster
What is the effect of carbon dioxide on rate of photosynthesis?
The more CO2 is given ,the faster is the photosynthesis
Can carbon dioxide be a non-limiting factor at rate of photosynthesis?
Yes
What are the effects of temperature on rate of photosynthesis?
Slow at low temperature
Works the fastest at optimum
Enzymes denature at extreme temperature
What is the effect of stomata on rate of photosynthesis?
Carbon dioxide diffuses into the leaf through stomata. If the stomata are closed, photosynthesis can't take place
