magma cooled creating granite. the granite was pushed up through the crust. grant glaciers sculpted the valley and a terminal moraine at the end of the glacier dammed in mersaid river made a giant lake, the bottom sediment of the lake collected and gave Yosemite valley it’s block shape valley.
compare and contrast the American and Canadian Rockies?
both American and Canadian Rockies formed from plate subduction, but American formed from Farallon’s plate and Canadian was formed from kula plate. the Farallon plate was flat- slab subduction. Canadian Rockies mostly have sedimentary rock as American Rockies are made from metamorphic rock. the tree line in Canadian Rockies is lower due to heavy glaciation
explain the San andrenas fault and the future of southern California?
the San andrea’s fault is a strip split fault trying to break cali apart as energy build in fault massive earthquakes. parts of cali should be underwater but colorado river sediment created a natural dam which keeps the ocean at bay. southern california will be under water in the next 1,000 yrs be colorado river isnt reaching the ocean, and san andreas fault is splitting trying to make it an island.
