Number

this is an arithmetic value used to represent the quantity and make calculations. A written symbol of this is known as numeral. A system of this is a writing system for denoting logical using digits or symbols.

Natural Numbers

these are the counting numbers, starting from 1 91,2,3,4,…)

whole numbers

these include natural numbers and zero (0,1,2,3,…)

Integers

these include all positive and negative whole numbers, including zero (…-3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3…)

Rational Numbers

These can be expressed as a fraction of two integers, such as 1/22,3/4, or -2/5.

irrational numbers

these cannot be expressed as a fraction of two integers, such as pi or the square root of 2.

real numbers

this set includes all rational and irrational numbers

Number sense

refers to a person’s ability to work with numbers, understand their quantities, and use them meaningfully. It encompasses the understanding of concepts like comparing numbers, determining their values, and recognizing their significance in various contexts.

Estimating and approximating

being able to make reasonable guesses about quantities and values.

Recognizing patterns and relationships

identifying and understanding patterns within numbers and sequences.

Comparing and ordering numbers

determining the relative size and order of numbers.

Performing mental calculations

calculating basic arithmetic operations without relying on calculators or written methods
