What are the two types of electron microscopes?
Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM).
How does a TEM work?
Electrons pass through an ultra-thin specimen; magnetic lenses focus the image onto a screen, producing a 2D image.
How does a SEM work?
The specimen’s surface is coated with metal (Au/Ag); an electron beam scans the surface and secondary electrons form a detailed 3D image.
Which microscope provides higher magnification — light or electron?
Electron microscope (×100,000 vs ×1,000 for light).
Why do electron microscopes have higher magnification?
Because the wavelength of electrons is much shorter than the wavelength of light.
