What is sudden infant death syndrome?
is when a healthy baby, usually less than 1 year old, suddenly and unexpectedly dies during sleep — and even after investigation, no clear cause can be found

what is unkown sids?
Occurs when a healthy infant under one year of age dies suddenly and unexpectedly, with no identifiable medical or environmental explanation even after an autopsy. (UNKNOWN)
what is accidental suffocation sids?
Accidental suffocation and strangulation in bed occur when an infant's airway is blocked due to an unsafe sleep environment.
PRECIPITATING FACTORS of sids?
- Sleeping on stomach (prone position)
- Sleeping on soft bedding (pillows, blankets)
- Overheating during sleep
- Mild respiratory infections (like colds)
- Exposure to cigarette smoke after birth
S/S of sids?
Usually no warning signs before death
LABORATORY AND DIAGNOSTIC TEST of sids?
- autopsy (To rule out infections, birth defects, injuries, or other known causes of sudden death)
- x-ray/scan
Emergency Response (If baby is found unresponsive) important note: Health workers may try:
- CPR
- Resuscitation efforts like oxygen, suctioning, or IV fluids
nursing management for sids?
1. Provide emotional support to the parents
2. Allow and encourage the family to express feelings
3. Refer to a counselor
4. Explain the situation clearly
