Vacuole
Temporary storage area (for waste products, harmful materials, etc). Much larger in plant cells
Cell Wall
Gives structural support and protection to the cell, prevents the cell from exploding when too much water enters cell.
Protects the cell and controls what enters and leaves the cell.
cell membrane
controls movement of substances in and out of cells, separates inside of cell from outside environment
Nuclear envelope/membrane
Controls what goes in and out of the nucleus.
Smooth ER
makes lipids, and neutralizes poisons.
Rough ER:
has ribosomes, which is the site for protein synthesis.
Nucleus
The brain of the cell. Controls all cell functions.
Golgi Bodies
modifies macromolecules like proteins and stores, packages, and distributes them within the cell
Lysosome
Breaks down and digests excess organelles, waste products and materials (more found in animal cells).
Ribosomes
makes proteins
Cytoplasm
a fluid material that supports and contains organelles; constantly moving.
Mitochondria
Creates energy
Powerhouse of the cell
Nucleolus
Within the nucleus and makes ribosomes.
Chloroplast and Chlorophyll
contain green pigment called chlorophyll, which allows the cell to photosynthesize.
