define fertilisation
when male gamete and women gamete fuse
how does fertilisation happen in a plant and what happens after fertilisation
when the pollen grain lands on the stigma, a pollen tube is grown out down the style into the ovary. The nucleus from the male gamete goes down the pollen tube to fuse with the nucleus from the female gamate. This forms a zygote, then it is divided by mitosis creating an embryo. The fertilised female gamete forms a seed, then the ovary around the seed develops into a fruit.
what are the conditions needed to make a seed germinate
water
oxygen
optimum temperature for enzymes
why is water a factor that makes a seed germinate
activates the enzymes that break down the food reserves in the seed.
why is oxygen a factor for a seed to germinate
becuase out is used for respiration that transfers from food to energy for growth.
Why is temperature a factor for a seed to germinate
enzymes at optimum temperature will be at their highest activity.
what happens when a seed germinate
the seed takes in water an starts to grow using its store of energy
the first root starts to grow down into the soil
the shoot grows up
the extra roots grow and the first green leaves appear.
where and why does the plant get glucose for respiration
they get glucose from their food stores, this transfers the energy it needs to grow
