Opioids: Morphine sulfate, Fentanyl, Hydrophone, Meperidine

• pain management

• side effects → resp. depression, constipation, nausea, and withdraw

NSAIDS and sugery

• ibuprofen, naproxen, aspirin

• BLEEDING RISK → hold before surgery

Cefazolin

• antibiotic

• given to prevent surgical site infections

Corticosteroids and surgery

• END IN SONE

• DO NOT stop suddenly can cause cardiovascular collapse → BP will go to nothing → take before surgery

Enoxaparin

• aka lovenox

• prevent DVT/PE

• blood thinner → DO NOT give before surgery bleeding risk

Metronidazole

• antibiotics

• given before GI and gynecological surgeries ot prevention of bacterial growth

Garlic and surgery

• BLEEDING risk

St. John’s Wort and surgery

• increases sedation with anesthesia

Promethazine

• given for post operative N/V

Naloxone hydrochloride

• AKA Narcan

• used to reverse opiod overdose

• classically associated with Malignant Hyperthermia risk

Anticholinergics and post op

• constipation, trouble voiding
