What is matter?
Anything that has volume and mass.
What are the three states of matter?
Solid, liquid, and gas.
Why does gas have a random shape?
Because its particles move fast and randomly in all directions.
What is the kinetic theory of matter?
Any substance is made up of tiny particles that are always in motion.
What factors affect the motion of particles?
Mass and kinetic energy.
What is a physical change?
A change that happens when a substance changes state by heating or cooling.
List the properties of physical change.
What happens during melting?
Solid changes to liquid by heating, it is an endothermic process.
What is sublimation?
When a solid changes directly to gas or the reverse without passing through a liquid state.
Give an example of a substance that can sublime.
Ammonium chloride (NH4Cl) or iodine (I2).
What does dissolving represent in terms of physical change?
Dissolving is a physical change.
Describe the arrangement and motion of particles in solid state.
Particles vibrate in fixed position
