Position vs time graph: parabola
Negative slope → negative velocity
Decreasing slope → velocity becoming more negative
Concave down parabola → constant, negative acceleration
Velocity vs time graph: straight line
Constant, negative slope → constant, negative acceleration
Acceleration vs time graph: horizontal line
Constant, negative value → constant, negative acceleration
For motion in the positive direction or negative direction:
Speeding up → acceleration in the same direction as the velocity
Slowing down → acceleration in the opposite direction of the velocity
A box is sliding across the floor, but you notice that it is slowing down. What are the surroundings of the box? (Include all surroundings even if we ultimately neglect them.)
Earth, Air, Floor
A box is sliding across the floor, but you notice that it is slowing down. What force is responsible for the box slowing to a stop?
Kinetic friction force
What mathematical property of the graph is equal to the average acceleration?
Slope
A skydiver is falling vertically downward toward the earth with a constant velocity. What can we conclude from this?
The net force on him is zero
