nomination

begin, nominate, or propose a speaker’s ideas in a conversation.

restriction

a strategy that contains or restrict the response of the other person involved in the communication.

topic control

the one who nominates the topic, reminds anyone who goes off topic to stick to the agreed one.

topic shifting

when the first topic has already been discussed, a party to a conversation, nominates another topic.

turn-taking

each gives others a chance to speak; thus, while one has the floor, the others listen.

verbal cues

when a current speaker cues that they are done speaking.

non-verbal cues

may include a nod to the next by the current speaker, or an extended open hand directly to the next speaker.

repair

communication breakdown happens when the speaker is not understood by the receiver.

termination

winding up and ending a discussion.
