Pulmonary Circuit v Systemic Circuit
Pulmonary: deoxy. Blood from right ventricle → lungs for oxygenation → left atrium
Systemic: oxy. Blood from left ventricle → rest of body →nreturn deoxy. Blood to right atrium
Arteries
-carry blood AWAY from heart, blood moves into arterioles (smaller arteries), then divide into capillaries
-thick walls to withstand high pressure
-round + thin lumen, no valves
-has 3 layers (tunica intima, media, externa)
Veins
-carry blood TO heart, blood from capillary beds drain into venules (smaller veins), then merge to veins
-thin walls, irregular shaped + wide lumen
-valves to prevent backflow
-has 3 layers (tunica intima, media, externa)
Capillaries
-very thin walls, easy for diffusion of gases, nutrients, blood
-1 cell thick, very thin lumen
