Solid
A state of matter where particles are tightly packed together and vibrate in place. Difficult to compress.
Liquid
A state of matter where particles are close but can slide past each other, allowing for pourability. Takes the form of its container and is difficult to compress.
Gas
A state of matter where particles are far apart and move freely. Takes the form of its container and can be compressed easily.
Melting
The change of state from solid to liquid.
Vaporisation
The change of state from liquid to gas.
Condensation
The process of gas converting back to the liquid state of matter.
Freezing
The process of liquid converting to solid.
Deposition
The process of gas converting directly to solid.
Sublimation
The process where a solid converts directly into a gas, skipping the liquid step.
Particle Theory
All matter is made up of tiny particles.
