What are Noninfectious Diseases?
Diseases that are not caused by pathogens.
Are communicable or contagious?
No!
What are noncommunicable diseases caused by?
They are caused by a variety of risk factors that may be behavioral, environmental, or hereditary.
What are some examples of noncommunicable diseases?
Cancers, Diabetes, Arthritis, and Cardiovascular diseases.
What is Cancer?
A variety of different diseases that involve the rapid, uncontrolled growth and spread of abnormal cells are known as cancer.
What is a Malignant tumor?
Cancer cells form a mass of tissues.
What is Metastasis?
The spreading of cancer from where it begins to other parts of the body.
What is a Benign tumor?
Noncancerous cells
What causes cancer?
Hereditary, environmental, and behavioral.
What are carcinogens?
Cancer causing agents.
How many stages of cancer are there?

What is stage 1 of cancer?
Small localized cancers that are usually curable.
What is stage 2 and 3 of cancer?
- Usually locally advanced and/or with involvement of local lymph nodes.
- Defined precisely, but the definition is different for each type of cancer.
What is stage 4 of cancer?
Usually represents inoperable or metastatic cancer.
What is skin cancer?
Caused by ultraviolet rays from sunlight.
What is Melanoma?
Least common type of skin cancer but the most serious.
How does Melanoma usually begin?
With a mole or other dark area on the skin and spreads very rapidly.
What does the amount of pigment in your skin affect?
How vulnerable you may be to the damaging effects of sunlight.
What is Lung cancer?
The most common type of life-threatening cancer.
What is Oral cancer?
Cancer of the mouth can affect any part of the oral cavity - lips, tongue, mouth, or throat.
What is Colon and Rectal cancer?
These are the second most common types of fatal cancer.
What is Breast cancer?
In women, breast cancer is the second most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death.
What is Leukemia?
A cancer of the blood-forming tissues in the bone marrow.

What are the seven warning signs in detecting cancer?
- Change in bowel or bladder habits.
- A sore that does not heal.
- Unusual bleeding or discharge.
- Thickening or lump in the breast or elsewhere.
- Indigestion or difficulty in swallowing.
- Obvious change in a wart or mole.
- Nagging cough or hoarsness.
What are the three treatment options for Cancer?
Radiation therapy, Chemotherapy, and Immunotherapy.
What is Radiation Therapy?
The use of high-energy radiation to kill cancer cells, it can slow or stop the spreading of cancer.
What is Chemotherapy?
Drugs that attack the cancer cells (as well as the good cells in your body).
What is Immunotherapy?
Drugs are used to stimulate the body's immune system to attack cancer cells.
How can you prevent cancer?
- Do not use any form of tobacco.
- Avoid drinking alcohol.
- Respect the sun's UV rays.
- Diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol.
- Diet with plenty of fruits and veggies.
- Exercise regularly to maintain a healthy weight.
- Avoid unnecessary x-rays and radiation.
- Avoid known carcinogens.
