lithosphere

The outermost layer of the earth, the crust and uppermost mantle. This layer is split into a number of tectonic plates.

Biosphere

The biological content of the Earth- alll living matter

Hydrosphere

A discontinous layer of water at or near the Earths surface. Includes liquid and solid water, ground water and atmospheric water vapor.

Cryosphere

The frozen parts of the planet, including snow and ice, ice caps, glaciers, permafrost and sea ice
