Biology
The science that involves studying life’s forms and the processes of life.
Living Things
Organisms that are made up of cells and exhibit characteristics such as growth, movement, reproduction, and responding to the environment.
Cell
The tiny unit made up of one or more cells that constitutes all living organisms.
Unicellular Organisms
Organisms that consist of only one cell, such as bacteria and some fungi.
Multicellular Organisms
Organisms that are made up of many cells, such as animals, plants, and certain fungi.
Cell Theory
A scientific theory that states: all living things are made up of one or more cells, the cell is the basic unit of structure and function of life, cells come from pre-existing cells, and cells contain DNA.
Characteristics of Living Things
Includes being made of cells, growing and developing, moving, reproducing, requiring energy, exchanging materials, and maintaining a constant internal environment.
Viruses
Entities that are not considered living because they are not made of cells and require a host cell to replicate.
Cell Membrane
A structure that encloses the cell, controlling entry and exit of materials, and is composed of a phospholipid bilayer.
Cytoplasm
The inside environment of a cell, where various cellular processes occur.
