CH 9 Grammar (Genitive) SINGULAR RULES

Masculine and neuter noun forms either (-а, -я)

-a is added to masculine nouns ending in a consonant & replaces neuter nouns -o ending

-я replaces the ь (soft sign) or -й of masculine nouns & the -e of neuter nouns

Feminine Nouns/ Masculine Nouns with feminine endings all have (-ы / -и) (Genitive)

-Replace nominative -a with -ы

-Replace -я or -ь with - и

-Remember spelling rule #1 will apply to nouns ending with (-ка,га,жа,ха,ша,ща). They will have genitive -и  instead of -ы

Use when dealing with #’s, quantities, posession, large # of prepositions, нет, and negated transitive verbs

CH 9 Grammar (Genitive) Plural RULES

• All nouns ending ь (M/F), replace -ь with -ей (often stressed)

• Nouns ending (ж,ш,щ,ч) add -ей (often stressed)

• Most other (M) nouns ending w/ consonant add -ов

• Nouns (F) with -a or Nouns (N) with -o simply lose them

• All Nouns ending -ия & -ие replace the -я & -е w/ -й
