The increasing percentage of a population living in towns and cities.

Rural to urban migration

The movement of people from sparsely populated areas to densely populated areas.

Internal growth

Population increase due to the death rates being lower than the birth rate.

Push factor

Something that encourages people to leave a place.

Pull factor

Something that encourages people to move to a place

Megacity

A city with a population of 10 million people or more.

World City

A city that exerts influence over other cities and parts of the world. E.g. London has two financial districts such as in Canary Wharf which influence the global stock market.
