Why can’t you just heat organic substances in a beaker and heat it to speed up a reaction?
They are too flammable
What is reflux?
When a mixture is heated in a flask fitted with a vertical Liebig condenser which constantly boils, evaporates and condenses the vapours which recycles them back into the flask giving the solution time to react
Why is electric heating usually used?
To avoid naked flames being exposed to the organic products?
What do anti-bumping granules do in reflux?
It helps with smoother boiling by bubbles forming in the granules which stops bubbles joint together so they don’t get too big
