Resultant Torque
The total torque acting on an object, calculated by summing individual torques.
Torque
A measure of the rotational force acting on an object.
Moment Arm
The perpendicular distance from the line of action of a force to the axis of rotation.
Positive Torque
Torque that causes counterclockwise rotation.
Negative Torque
Torque that causes clockwise rotation.
Equilibrium
A state where the resultant torque is zero, resulting in no rotation.
Mechanical Advantage
The ratio of the moment arms of muscle force to external force, indicating how much a muscle can amplify the force exerted.
Flexing
The action of bending a joint, typically resulting in a decrease in the angle between bones.
Extending
The action of straightening a joint, typically resulting in an increase in the angle between bones.
Biceps Brachii
A muscle in the upper arm that causes elbow flexion.
Triceps Brachii
A muscle in the back of the upper arm that causes elbow extension.
