they should monitor ALT/AST (liver enzymes) and creatinine kinase levels

creatinine kinase is a protein found in the skeletal muscles and in the heart. high levels of this mean that the muscles are becoming damaged and it is leaking into the blood. this is known as rhabdomyolysis and myopathy. Fibrates combined with statins worsen this as well as liver toxicity so it is important to not take both at the same time
