User Interface Design (UI)
The process designers use to build interfaces in software or computerized devices, focusing on looks or style. These designs refer to graphical user interfaces and other forms
Graphical User Interface (GUIs)
Users interact with visual representations on digital control panels. A computer desktop is an example
Voice-Controlled Interfaces (VUIs)
Users interact with these through their voices. Most are smart assistants
Gesture-based Interfaces
Users engage 3D design spaces through bodily motions
Discoverability
Figuring out how a product works. Discovering what it does, how it works, and what operations are possible. Results from the appropriate application of five fundamental psychological concepts. The sixth principle, and most important, is the conceptual model of the system
What does Discoverability occur through?
- The existence of affordances particular to the design
- The recognition of signifiers that make the user aware of the signifiers
- The mapping of signifiers to create a hierarchy of actions or functions
- The ability of the user to intuit and experience a conceptual model
Conceptual Model
an explanation, usually highly simplified, of how something works. It doesn't have to be complete or even accurate as long as it is useful.
