Contour lines join places of the same evolution above sea level

Contour never cross or touch each other, except when they show a very steep vertical slope

Contour lines never end, except on the edge of a map or by joining up with themselves

A standard contour level is used- equal height between an interval and between contour lines i.e ( 50, 100, 150, 200
