• origin: ASIS

• insertion: pes anserine

• innervation: femoral nerve

rectus femoris

anterior thigh muscles - quads

• action: hip flexion, knee extension

• origin: AIIS

• insertion: quadriceps tendon → patella → patellar ligament → tibial tuberosity

• innervation: femoral nerve

vastus intermedius

anterior thigh muscles - quads

• action: knee extension

• insertion: quadriceps tendon → patella → patellar ligament → tibial tuberosity

• innervation: femoral nerve

vastus lateralis

• origin: inferior ramus of pubis, ischial tuberosity

• insertion: linea aspera, adductor tubercle

• action: flexes, abducts, and medially rotates hip

• insertion: iliotibial tract

• action: extends MTP, PIP, and DIP of toes 2-5, dorsiflexes and everts ankle
