Static and Dynamic Equilibrium
Equilibrium implies the object is at rest or its center of mass moves with a constant velocity.
Static Equilibrium
We will consider only with the case in which linear and angular velocities are equal to zero.
First Condition of Equilibrium: Translational Equilibrium
It states that the translational acceleration of the object’s center of mass must be zero.
The net external force on the object must equal zer
Torque
An action that causes objects to rotate. It is not the same thing as force.
The measure of the tendency of the force to cause an object to turn or rotate.
For rotational motion, the torque is what is most directly related to the motion, not the force
Second Condition of Equilibrium: Rotational Equilibrium
When an object is in this equilibrium, the net torque applied to it is zero.
It is is often used to determine unknown forces.
