maintaining a balanced internal environment ; necessary for life

cell membrane

semipermeable bi-layer, which surrounds the all cells and maintains homeostasis; controls what enters and leaves the cell

passive transport

movement of materials in/out of the cell which flow with or down the concentration gradient; does not require energy atp 

diffusion

the process by which any molecule spreads out from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration 

feedback mechanism

this is when body receives a stimulus from environment triggers response in organism to maintain stability

fascilitiated diffusion

diffusion of materials using a transport protein in the cell membrane

osmosis

the diffusion of water across a semi permeable membrane from an area of high to low concentration 

active transport

movement of materials in/ out of the cell which flow against up the concentration gradient

hypertonic

a solution with more solute (ex. salt, sugar) than the cell

hypotonic

a solution with less solute than the cell

isotonic

a solution with equal solute as the cell

cellular respiration

occurs in the mitochondria; creates energy (atp) for the cell

a quick & easy energy source for your body cells

photosynthesis

the process of taking sunlight energy from the sun and converting it into glucose
