Infiltrating Ductal Carcinoma
A type of breast cancer where cancer cells have spread from the milk ducts to surrounding breast tissue.
Estrogen Receptors (ER)
Proteins found in breast cancer cells that bind to estrogen, potentially promoting cancer growth.
Progesterone Receptors (PR)
Similar to ER, these proteins bind to progesterone and can influence breast cancer growth.
Ki-67
A proliferation marker used to assess how quickly cancer cells are growing.
Her2/neu
A protein that can be overexpressed in breast cancer cells, leading to more aggressive growth.
Modified Radical Mastectomy
Surgical procedure involving removal of the entire breast and axillary lymph nodes.
Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy (SLNB)
Procedure to determine if cancer has spread to the lymph nodes; the sentinel node is the first node to which cancer cells are likely to spread.
Adjuvant Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy given after surgery to kill any remaining cancer cells.
Adjuvant Endocrine Therapy
Hormone therapy given after surgery (used when the cancer is estrogen-receptor positive).
Doxorubicin
A cardiotoxic chemotherapeutic agent used in breast cancer treatment.
Tissue Expander
A temporary implant used to stretch the skin and muscle of the chest wall in preparation for breast reconstruction.
Silicone Prosthesis
A permanent breast implant filled with silicone gel, used in breast reconstruction.
BIRADS 5 Breast Mass
Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System category 5, indicates a high suspicion of malignancy based on mammography findings and requires biopsy.
Core Needle Biopsy
A procedure that obtains a tissue sample from a suspicious area in the breast, using a hollow needle to extract small cylinders of tissue.
