Explanatory Variable

The independent variable that explains changes in the response variable

Response Variable

The dependent variable that measures the outcome of a study

Scatterplot

A graph that shows the relationship between two quantitative variables

Correlation (r)

A measure of the strength and direction of the linear relationship between two variables

The line that minimizes the sum of the squares of the vertical distances of the points from the line
