Direct Object
A noun or pronoun that receives the action of a verb and answers the question 'Whom?' or 'What?'.
Indirect Object
A noun or pronoun that tells 'to whom' or 'for whom' the action of the verb is performed, existing only when there is a direct object.
Predicate Adjective
An adjective that follows a linking verb and describes the subject, answering the question 'What?'
Predicate Nominative
A noun or pronoun that follows a linking verb and renames the subject, answering the question 'Whom?' or 'What?'
Linking Verb
A verb that connects the subject of the sentence to a subject complement, such as 'is', 'are', 'was', or 'seem'.
Subject Complement
A word or group of words that describes or renames the subject, including predicate adjectives and predicate nominatives.
Action Verb
A verb that expresses a physical or mental action.
Noun
A word that represents a person, place, thing, or idea.
Subject
The part of a sentence or clause that indicates who or what the sentence is about.
