Elimination
The process of expelling waste from the body.
Pain

Fluid and Electrolyte Balance
Maintaining the proper levels of fluids and electrolytes in the body for optimal physiological function.
Intestinal Obstruction
A blockage that prevents the contents of the intestines from passing through.
Mechanical Obstruction
Obstruction caused by physical blockage in the intestines.
Nonmechanical Obstruction
Obstruction caused by conditions that affect the movement of the intestines, such as paralytic ileus.
Telescoping of the bowel
A form of obstruction where a section of the intestine folds into itself.
Volvulus
A twisting of the intestines that can obstruct the flow of contents.
Etiology
The study of the cause of a disease or condition.
Adhesions
Scar tissue that can cause tissues and organs to stick together.
Intussusception
A condition where a part of the intestine folds into another section.
Hernia
A condition where an organ pushes through an opening in the muscle or tissue.
Fecal Impaction
A mass of dry, hard stool that will not pass.
Strictures
Narrowing of the intestines that can cause obstruction.
Incidence
The rate or frequency at which a disease occurs.
Prevalence
The total number of cases of a disease in a given population at a specific time.
Obstipation
Severe constipation that leads to the inability to pass gas or stool.
Distention
Swelling or enlargement caused by internal pressure, often in the abdomen.
