The Alien act gave the right to deport foreigners of any nation. It was made in effort for Federalists to stay in power. Any immigrant that came to the US had to wait fourteen years to become a citizen and be able to vote. Thomas Jefferson and many immigrants opposed the act. It was established by John Adams in 1798 and later set to expire in 1801.
