Labor
The time and effort of people to contribute to the production process.
Land
Any natural resource drawn from nature for production of goods and services.
Capital
Physical capital is any long-lasting good used to make other goods or services.
Human capital
The skills and knowledge possessed by workers.
Industrialization
The process of developing industries in a country or region.
Technological Change
Innovations such as steam engines and chemical processes that improve production.
Division of Labor
The assignment of different tasks to different people in a production process.
Colonialism
Replacing the people in a land with your own systems for access to raw materials.
Exploitation
The act of taking advantage of a situation or individuals, often for economic gain.
Imperialism
Policy of extending a country's power and influence through colonization or military force.
Opium Wars
Conflicts between China and western powers over trade imbalances, primarily opium.
Nationalist movements
Political movements aimed at gaining independence for a nation or ethnic group.
Extraterritoriality
The right of foreigners to be protected by the laws of their own nation rather than by the laws of the host country.
Boshin War
A civil war in Japan between the ruling Tokugawa shogunate and those seeking to return imperial rule.
Taiping Rebellion
A massive civil war in China from 1850 to 1864 against the ruling Qing dynasty.
