Testes
Male gonads that produce sperm and hormones, primarily testosterone.
Spermatic Cord
Contains blood vessels, lymphatic vessels, nerves, and the vas deferens.
Epididymis
Site of sperm maturation located atop each testis.
Prostate Gland
Secretes fluid that enhances sperm viability and motility.
Seminal Vesicle
Produces alkaline fluid that nourishes sperm and helps neutralize acidic environments.
Vagina
Muscular tube extending from the cervix to the exterior, receiving the penis during intercourse.
Uterus
Hollow organ where the fertilized ovum implants and develops.
Ovary
Female gonads that produce oocytes (eggs) and hormones such as estrogen and progesterone.
Cervix
Narrow portion of the uterus that opens into the vagina.
Glans Penis
The expanded distal portion of the corpus spongiosum.
Fimbriae
Finger-like projections at the end of the fallopian tubes aiding in capturing the oocyte.
Oogonium
The female germ cell that develops into a primary oocyte.
Acrosome
A vesicle in the head of the sperm containing enzymes for penetrating the oocyte during fertilization.
Spermatogenesis
The process of sperm cell development in the seminiferous tubules.
Endometrium
The lining of the uterus that thickens and is shed during menstruation.
Corpus Luteum
The hormone-secreting structure that develops from a follicle after ovulation.
Meiosis I
The first stage of meiotic division that reduces the chromosome number by half.
Meiosis II
The second stage of meiotic division that separates sister chromatids into haploid cells.
